Merry Christmas!

Class 3 wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We’ve been working on a stop-motion version of the Nativity in R.E. and computing, and we hope you enjoy it!

Here are the winners of the Friends of Cathedral Christmas card competition. The whole class wrote such thoughtful cards which I’m sure will be really appreciated at Lucy Brown House.

Autumn 2 Week 6 – Marvellous Multiplication

Stars of the Week: Nifemi and Terrence

Both Nifemi and Terrence have been superstar mathematicians this week. They have explained their reasoning about multiplication and division, spotted patterns and asked thoughtful questions to find out more. They have also worked hard to learn times tables facts and can use these with confidence to solve different problems.

Next half term we will be learning how to multiply and divide 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.

Autumn 2 Week 3 – Collective Worship

Stars of the Week: All of Class 3!

Well done to all of Class 3 for their fantastic efforts putting our class collective worship together. We can’t wait to share it with all of you next Tuesday morning!

Everyone worked so hard to plan what they were going to say and think of the best things to share about their learning so far in Class 3. They really demonstrated their passion for learning!

Keep it up, superstars!

Autumn 2 Week 2 – Prayers

Stars of the Week: Carter and Polina

This week we have been writing prayers in preparation for our class collective worship. Carter and Polina both wrote really thoughtful prayers, reflecting on our learning and the things that we are thankful for.

Carter:

Dear God,
Thank you for letting us come to school. Thank you for letting us eat our food and thank you for always letting us do work.
Please help us to learn. Help us with our confidence.
Amen.

Polina:

Dear God,
Thank you for the teachers and the people who love us. Thank you for the school and for nature and animals. Please help us to live happy lives. Please make us learn with wonderful teachers. Thank you for the Bible because it is good to show kindness. Please help us show the fruits of the spirit.
Amen.

Autumn 2, Week 1 – Times Tables

Stars of the Week: Amaris and Kirstin

Class Three have been working so hard on using their times tables. Kirstin and Amaris both did brilliantly on the 3x table quiz this week, and used their knowledge of the inverse to solve missing number divisions and other related facts. Great work!

Today, we start learning the 4x table. It’s very exciting to see the progress that Class 3 are making with maths so far this year. Keep it up, superstars!

We have also started our new history topic on the Stone Age. We are reading Stone Age Boy in English and developing our historical knowledge through literacy.
Stig of the Dump is our class book for story time.

Autumn 1 Week 6 – The Bible

Stars of the Week: Deborah and Martha

We have been learning about the metanarrative of the Bible in R.E. this term, and have thought about how the different writings in the Bible add to this ‘big story’. We learnt the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den and wrote diary entries to show how Daniel’s actions showed his faith in God.

Next week we will be… continuing our maths learning on adding and subtracting using 3-digit numbers.

Autumn 1 Week 4 – Vincent van Gogh

Stars of the Week: Fintan and Parker

We are learning about Vincent van Gogh in art this half term, and have created some landscapes inspired by ‘The Starry Night’. First, we created starry backgrounds, showing movement through patterns and lines, then sketched the buildings around us from observation. Fintan and Parker looked really closely at the shapes and details to produce some really effective work.

Super artists, well done!

Next week, we will begin our maths unit on addition and subtraction, and begin to learn to add with three-digit numbers.

Autumn 1 week 3 – Poetry

Stars of the Week: Funmi and Kemena

This week, Class 3 have been writing poetry inspired by our class text, Oliver and the Seawigs. Kemena and Funmi worked together brilliantly to create their poem describing a ‘Rambling Isle’ from the story. We’ll soon have a fantastic display of poetry and sea monkey illustrations on our classroom wall!
