Spring 1 – Week 5

Stars of the Week: Gabrielle & Hudson

This week, we have been finishing our Victorian Britain topic by looking at Florence Nightingale and Dr Thomas John Barnardo, two people who made a great contribution to improving the lives of many during these difficult times.

We spent time researching them before we wrote our own information texts about them.

Spring 1 – Week 4

Stars of the Week: Rosa & Sean

This week, we have been creating some artwork for our display in the hall. We used chalk pastels to create our artwork which was tricky because they smudge so easily! We soon got the hang of them and were able to blend the colours to make some beautiful work.  Our artwork was created from Matthew 3: 11-12,

“I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.  His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Spring 1 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Scarlett & Cruz

This week, we have been learning all about life in Victorian Britain. We learnt all about different jobs that children would do and they would sometimes start working when they were four years old!

We researched what life was like in a Victorian workhouse and wrote our own setting descriptions based on this.

Spring 1 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: Jessica & Jacob

This week, we enjoyed a session of Now Press Play with John Pettigrew, CEO of National Grid. We got to learn all about different forms of renewable energy, including wind and solar.

At the end of the session, we got to ask some questions about National Grid and all they do to provide us with power.

Spring 1 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Tabitha & Cam’ron

This week, we have been busy starting our new topic: databases! We have starting compiling our own information which we will eventually put into our own database. We answered questions about different animals and then sorted them according to specific criteria.

Autumn 2 – Week 6

Stars of the Week: Osarenoma & Javon

This week, we have been busy learning all about El Salvador. We discussed things which we import from El Salvador and also analysed some case studies of different children who live here. We looked at a typical day for them and compared it to our days. We also learnt about what they do to earn a living and how we could help if things go wrong. This included solutions like building a well, so they have easy access to water.

Autumn 2 – Week 4

Stars of the Week: Chiugo & Ethan

This week, we went on a trip to the BBC Earth Experience to link with our class text. We learnt all about different animals from all different continents of the world. We also got to participate in various activities including one about life in the water and another all about bugs!

Autumn 2 – Week 2

This week, we have been working hard on our basketball skills. We have been practicing different passes, including chest pass and bounce pass. Although we have to bring our session to a close early (due to the rain), we were treated with a lovely rainbow over The Shard!
