Superb Spitfires!

I am so proud of Year 5 and their model-making abilities!

This week, we have been finishing off our Spitfires and they look truly remarkable! We have written instructions for how to make these model Spitfires, so if you wish to make one yourself, please ask the Year 5 children for their instructions and advice!

All of the children made these planes themselves, from the paper template, to forming the cardboard model, to using the mod-rock, and finally to painting the Spitfire.

Here are a selection of photos of our work in progress:

If you wish to see what they looked like when they are now finished, take a look inside our year 5 classroom, as they are now hanging up on display!

I was really happy with my airplane. I thought it was going to be hard because it was big and it had lots of little details. But I was wrong and it came out well.

Making spitfires is really fun, and if you have the right equipment, it is a great thing to do at home.

It was so fun making the Spitfires! My favourite part of making the Spitfires was painting them, because the designs really went well on the planes and wwe also got to personalise them with our initials! It took us a bit of time because there were so many stages to complete but it was all worth it! We even put some planes on display.

I really enjoyed making our Spitfire airplanes. It was so fun in art lessons making our spitfire models.

Why we did Spitfires is because we went on a trip to the Imperial War Museum where we learnt all about the Second World War. On the trip we learnt all about what Hitler tried to do to this world, but did not succeed. We also had an opportunity to talk to two people who were just children when World War Two was happening. We also was learning about the Second World War in the subject of history as well as art.

I really enjoyed making a pretty historical spitfire. I liked talking all about the history of the Blitz and the R.A.F. Also don’t forget the German air force, the Luftwaffe. The spits turned out looking very good.
