Story Writers

The BBC are currently running a short story competition. To enter, children are to submit a fictional short story. There are 2 age categories 5-9 years and 10-13 years.  The closing date is the 26th February. Here is the link to the website, which gives you further information. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk1

If your child wishes to take part they can write their story on paper and bring it into school. Alternatively you can help them type it up and insert it as a comment into this blog post.

I have included some images above that you may wish to use to support your child with ideas for their story. For example, where will the story be set? Who will the main characters be? What exciting or mysterious events will take place?

It is important that this is your child’s own work but some adult support, particularly if typing the story up, is encouraged.

We started a story together as a class……

One day their lived a young boy called Peter. He was walking in a haunted woods when he spotted a silver wolf. The wolf had fur like a silky moon and eyes as dark as the trees. His claws were as sharp as the thorns and his teeth were as sharp as swords.

Once upon a time, there was a princess called Nyshara. She had a beautifully long multi coloured dress which had lots of details and patterns.

She loved to wear it and she also liked putting on make up. Went she got older, she dreamt of being a fashion designer so she could make lovely clothes and everyone impressed.

Princess Nyshara had two young sisters, Princess Caitlyn and Princess Kaysha. They all went to the same school called Green Walk Fashion school.

One day, while Princess Nyshara was at school, learning to make a new dress, the fire alarm rang! Everyone had to leave. The princesses were worried that the dress would get ruined. The Fire Brigade came and checked the school.

Luckily it was a false alarm but when Princess Nyshara went back inside, her dress had disappeared. She was very upset. Her sisters helped her look all over the school for it. But they could not find it

In tears, she went to her teacher, Miss Hayfield and her that her dress was missing. Miss Hayfield smiled and told her that it wasn’t missing. She had taken it and put it in a safe place in the cupboard.

Princess Nyshara was so happy that she gave her teacher a big hug! She finished making the dress by adding lots of flowers and hearts to it and decided to give it to Miss Hayfield as a present.

Miss Hayfield was very impressed and wore it to school the next day

    Chapter One.
One day there was a pirate called Pirate Michael and his crew were called A thousand feet. Out of all the things in the world he was most afraid of spiders. One day he was drinking melon juice in his cabin and a shark burst up through the floorboards. It bit him on the leg but he wasn’t afraid. He went to bed that night with the shark in a little pool beside him he didn’t bother to help the shark get back into the ocean. The next day he got dressed and he put on a ragged shirt with his sword tucked in and a pair of shorts. He went over to the shark and dressed it in an apron and hat. He then grabbed a mat and climbed onto his boat with the shark and sailed off to find parrot island where his treasure map said the hidden treasure would be. When he got to Parrot island he found a box hidden in the sea weed. When he opened the box it had another map and a ruby. The map directed him to crab island. Pirate Michael decided to follow the map.
