I told my mum all about the blubber and the experiment that we did this afternoon and I got out my blue tac and I pretened that  it was blubber. It keeps the animals warm. It insulates them. 🙂

My mum and I looked at the animal encyclopedia to find out other ways of “adaptation”. We looked at polar bears that have thick coats of white fur and a thick layer of fat beneath to keep them warm. The fur and fat on polar bears are so good at trapping heat that the animals can get too warm in the summer. Penguins, instead, have feathers all the way down their legs together with a thick layer of fat under their skin.
