Poetry

In class 1 we have been writing poems inspired by T.S Eliot’s poems about cats. We used rhyming couplets and clapped the pulse to help us.

I have a cat her name is Bess
She likes to play with her friend Tess.
Sasha Cruft

I have a cat his name is Zack
When I go out he plays with Jack.
Zakaria

I have cat his name is Dan
He likes to do what I can.
Victory

I have a cat his names is Jed
When I go out he goes to bed.
Albert

I have a cat his name is Mack
He likes to sleep in a sack.
Ava

I have a cat her name is Dandy
When I go out she eats the candy.
Heidi

I have a cat his name is Ned
He likes to rip his own Ted.
Taym

I have a cat his name is Mack
He likes to roll around in black.

A wonderful trip to the theatre

Today Class 1 went to The Unicorn Theatre to see The Velveteen Rabbit. We had a fantastic time. We also stopped off by the river to take in a few sights! Thank you to all the adults who accompanied us on the trip, including our class governor, Janet.

Here are some of our thoughts on the play:

“My favourite part was when the boy took the rabbit around in a wheel barrow.” Thomas

“I liked it when the boy pushed the rabbit onto the end of the bed and squashed him!” Blubelle

“It was sad when Nana said she was going to burn the rabbit.” Imran

“My favourite bit was when they were playing hide and seek in the Nursery.” Taym

“I liked the bit where The Velveteen rabbit came out on stage with a real rabbit.” Edward

“It was scary when they pretended the bed was a boat and there was a storm and they played thunder noises.”

Class 1, please comment and tell everyone what you thought about they play.

Year 1 Phonics Test

Dear Parents,
Please watch this video for further guidance on the Year 1 phonics test this June. Although the video is intended for teachers, I think it is very useful for you to see so that you know exactly how the test will take place and how you can support your child at home. Please come and speak to me if you have any questions.
Thank you
Miss Scade

The Velveteen Rabbit

This term class 1 are reading ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’. We have enjoyed using drama to explore the different emotions felt by the characters and have written some wonderful letters and diary entries expressing these feelings.

We are very excited about going to The Unicorn Theatre next week to watch the play of The Velveteen Rabbit. Have you ever been to the theatre? What did you see?

A lovely letter from Oscar’s Mum

Dear Miss Scade and Mrs Scott,

I am writing to you, because I had the pleasure of going on a trip to Tate Modern with Y1 yesterday.

Despite the rain putting a damper on the trip, this was a most enjoyable trip. Not only was Class 1 so impeccably behaved, they were also extremely witty and funny and eager to learn. Their ideas on some of the art was priceless!

It was so wonderful to see that the children were listening to what they were told and still have their personalities shining through. I think Y1 was very lucky to be given the opportunity to find out about different art forms, in particular the installation artist Roxanna, who “lives” in an ever changing exhibition in her flat. How wonderful to be given this opportunity at this young age.

Miss Scade and Timi are doing a wonderful job with this class and Cathedral School should be very proud. And of course – Well done Class 1!

With kind regards,

Kristina Thiele
