Arithmetic – Reading analogue clocks

Below is an outline of how to develop skills in reading analogue clocks.

Clocks

1. Look at a clock at home, identify the hour hand, the minute hand and the second hand.
2. Learn how many seconds there are in one minute.
3. Learn how many minutes there are in one hour.
4. Learn how many hours there are in one day.
5. Read the clock so you know when it is 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, etc
6. Read the clock so you know when it is half past 1, half past 2, etc
7. Read the clock so you know when it is quarter past 1, half past 2, etc

Extension Challenge

8. Read the clock so you know when it is quarter to 1, quarter to 2, etc
9. Write a list of things you would do in the am and pm, e.g. At 2am I will be sleeping. At 2pm I will be in lessons at school.
