Autumn Week 1: Our First Week in Class 2!

Well done to Class 2 who have made a fantastic start to the year!

We have been learning about Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, and thinking about how this reflects our school motto, Life in all its Fullness. We learnt a traditional Jewish children’s song, wrote some reflections, made beautiful artwork and baked some Rosh Hashanah honey cookies! We also tried apple dipped in honey, a traditional Rosh Hashanah treat. The class said it was sweet, delicious and scrumptious!

Here are some photos of our cooking afternoon:

Here is the recipe we used, in case you would like to try it at home:
Ingredients:
100g soft butter
100g sugar
1 large tablespoon honey
1 egg yolk
1 level teaspoon cinnamon
180g self raising flour.

Equipment:
1 large bowl
1 wooden spoon
1 tablespoon
1 teaspoon
1 lined baking tray

Method:
1. Cream butter and sugar in a bowl.
2. Beat in honey and egg yolk.
3. Add cinnamon and flour, mix into soft dough.
4. Using a teaspoon, take small amounts of dough and roll them gently into balls – you should have enough for about 30 balls.
5. Place all the balls on a baking tray.
6. Cook in the oven for 15 minutes at 175 degrees C.
7. Remove biscuits from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
8. Eat and enjoy!
