Spring 1 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Kosi and Diane

This week, Class 5 have continued to focus on filming techniques in computing. They looked at a story board and worked in groups to film the different shots: Long shot, mid range and zoom. Using the story board, they read the script and evaluated the whole process.

Spring 1 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: Lanre and Sapphire

This week, Class 5 have written a setting description about a workhouse in the Victorian times. They had an interactive walk through the workhouse on the iPads and used that experience to inspire their writing.

In science, we have been learning about the properties of different materials. We tested the different properties such as hardness, flexibility, transparency and permeability.

Spring 1 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Iyad and Juno

Class 5 have settled back really well this week. We started our portraits which will be on display in the hall. Every child traced around their head on the paper and then drew all of the things that are important to them inside the silhouette. They then painted these with watercolours. I look forward to seeing them all on display!

Autumn 2 – Week 7

Stars of the Week: Diane and Joshua

This week, Class 5 made some guacamole and salsa. As they are studying the Americas and learning about world foods, it was the perfect food to make! Class 5 did a superb job at dicing the tomatoes and peeling the avocados. They mixed the ingredients together and put their creations into their tubs. Class 5 then had a tasting session in the afternoon with tortilla chips!

Autumn 2 – Week 5

Stars of the Week: Juno and Joshua

This week, Class 5 have continued their DT topic of food from over the world. We looked at the ingredients that are used to make guacamole, which is a South American dip. We searched where the ingredients originated from and plotted them on a map of the world.

In English,  we looked at the passive voice. Class 5 were able to confidently change a sentence from the active voice to the passive voice. An example that we came up with was ‘The boy ate the doughnut’ which we changed to ‘The doughnut was eaten by the boy’.

Autumn 2 – Week 4

Stars of the Week: Diane and Joshua

In P.E, Class 5 have been working very hard to improve their basketball skills. This week, they focused on keeping possession of the ball. There were a few different strategies they used, from crossing over with the ball, to passing the ball to another member of their team. They played a game of life-size ‘table basketball’ where the defenders couldn’t move and the attackers had to take the ball to the other side through their opponents.

Well done for your hard work in assessments this week, Class 5.

Autumn 2 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Victor and Anashe

This week, Class 5 have focused very well on report writing. They started the week by looking  at a newspaper report and labelling all of the language features. Once they understood the features, they planned their own reports about global warming based on pictures of glaciers melting from An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. Afterwards, they wrote their reports out which they will be editing and publishing next week.

In Maths, Class 5 finished their topic of multiplication and division and started a new topic on perimeter. They recalled that perimeter is the total length of all sides of a shape and looked at different ways to measure this.

Autumn 2 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: India and Maximillion

This week, Class 5 have continued their topic of forces in science. They looked at how surface area can affect air resistance by using different sized parachutes. The class predicted that the greater the surface area of the parachute, the more air resistance would be occurring on the parachute. They expected to see the bigger parachute drop slower and they were absolutely right!

In English, Class 5 spent some time looking at In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. They then performed the poem to the class in groups and wrote their own Remembrance Day poems.

Autumn 2 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Beatrice and Daniel

This week, Class 5 started their computing topic on vector drawing. They used Google Drawing to make pictures of houses with very simple shapes. They look forward to making more complicated drawings in future lessons.

In PE, they started their topic of fitness and basketball. Class 5 focused on getting their heart rates up with jumping jacks and jogging around. This warmed them up for their lesson on dribbling with a basketball. Well done class 5 for great focus this lesson!
