Autumn 1 – Week 5

Stars of the Week: Luca and Helena

This week, Class 5 have been powering through to complete the mini marathon. They started last week and have pushed themselves this week to cover more of the distance. They learned the importance of jogging as opposed to sprinting around so that they could continue running for longer. We will complete this next week.

In maths, Class 5 have focused on single-step and multi-step addition and subtraction problems. They looked at the language that is used in worded questions and decided what operation they would need to do if certain words came up.

Autumn 1 – Week 4

Stars of the Week: Stanley and Olivia

In computing this week, Class 5 have been learning about how messages are sent from one computer to another. All computers have their own IP addresses. They modelled how to send messages in ‘packets’ from one side of the classroom to the other. It was easy for one person to send one message, but when there were messages going both ways, the sending slowed right down!

Class 5 have planned the next chapter to their class text The Corn Grows Ripe and they look forward to writing the chapters out in full.

Autumn 1 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Sebastian and Marwah

In art this week, Class 5 have continued looking at O’Keeffe’s work. She created some beautiful landscapes which Class 5 used to inspire their own mountain range with chalk pastilles. They used warm colours at the front and cold colours at the back to give a sense of depth.

We look forward to planning and writing an additional chapter for our class book: The Corn Grows Ripe

Autumn 1 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: Maidie and Sarah

Class 5 have been writing setting descriptions of Ancient Mayan Villages. They took time to look at figurative language and include that in their writing. Some children were able to use personification really well. Have a look at this fantastic piece below!

In P.E, Class 5 were very luck to have a gymnastics coach teach them how to different jumps such as pikes and a forward roll from an incline wedge mat. They all acted like true professionals and made sure they finished in the correct standing position with their arms out.

Next week we will read more chapters of The Corn Grows Ripe in English where we will analyse the text.

Autumn 1 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Nathan and Ethan

Well done to the whole of Class 5 for their first week of the new academic year.

We have revised our understanding of place value including how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. Class 5 have even looked at a new place value column called the ten thousands!

In history and science, they have focused on the key vocabulary to ensure that they can correctly talk about and understand what we are learning this half term.

In PE, Class 5 started our topic of invasion games where we learned to dribble in hockey. Some children were even able to use the wooden sticks where they would control the ball with only one side of the stick!

Summer 2 – Week 6

Stars of the week: Bernice & Filip

Class 5 have had a busy week planning and drafting their London tourist guides in English. In maths, they have shown fantastic resilience converting between different units.  They have started painting their spitfire aeroplanes in DT and will paint on the finishing touches next week. In Spanish, the class consolidated their sports knowledge in a speaking and listening activity.

SPORTS DAY

Well done Class 5 for a SPECTACULAR SPORTS DAY! You all showed amazing team spirit and demonstrated your athletic skills brilliantly. Thank you so much to all the adults that came to watch – you brought the playground alive with energy.

(Wembley stadium eat your heart out!).

Summer 2 – Week 5

Stars of the week: Teniola & Courtney

This week in Class 5 we used Mod Roc to sculpt our spitfires. Next week we will paint them to bring them alive!

We have had a brilliant Sports Week so far and cannot wait for our Sports Day on Friday. It is safe to say we have enthusiasm, competitive spirit and team positivity by the bucket load!
