DT Week

This week, we have been beavering away: planning, designing, testing and refining our DT Week projects. While we won’t reveal what we are making (they will be excellent Christmas presents), we can offer a sneak preview of some of the things that we have been working on!

I really liked D.T Week. I enjoyed sewing the applique letter and printing fabric paint onto fabric.

What new skills did you learn?
I learnt how to sew (which was really fun to learn) and how to make the sides of a cushion neat and not having thread sticking out.

How did you improve your design from the initial plan?
I changed what the back of my cushion looks like. Instead of x+x+x it is lll+lll+lll.

This D.T Week project was very fun and I would love to do it again.

I really enjoyed DT week and we developed a lot of new skills. Such as sewing, plotting on grids, cutting on felt, printing with cardboard and stuffing cushions. This may not sound that hard but if you over-stuffed the cushion then the seams would burst! You do not want your seams to burst, because if they do all your stuffing will come out and your cushion will be a piece of fabric which, let me tell you, is not comfy. Also cutting the felt sounds like the most easiest job in the world. It’s not. The scissors wouldn’t cut at some points and when I finally did it there was ridges on my letter which I tried to cut, this was incredibly hard. Overall I really enjoyed DT week and I would not have made anything different for anything!

When we were doing the cushions I had soo much fun. When we were doing the cushions I liked it when we all worked as a team – as an example we worked as a team by helping each other if we got stuck when we were doing the sewing or some other thing. Anyway I really like D.T. week because it was fun, amazing and really exciting. When we found out that we were doing cushions for D.T. week I felt like screaming because I have never made a cushion before and I always wanted to make a cushion!

I really enjoyed DT week! I had lots of fun getting all messy, so I take that as a reminder of how much fun I had (now it is 2015 – a new year now, so I enjoyed the fun I had with my friends that year. It doesn’t seem that long ago since I joined Year 6, but I am still in school so I must enjoy everything yet to come. DT week was very creative because everybody’s creative juices flowed onto the fabric of our bight coloured pillows.
