Summer 1- Week 4

Stars of the Week: Yoki and Cruz

Class 1 have been working on capacity and volume in maths this week. They have enjoyed investigating how many smaller containers it takes to fill a larger container. We have also been comparing the capacity using the language ‘less than’ ‘more than’ and ‘equal to’ as well as putting containers in order from greatest to smallest.

Next week we are looking forward to doing some more work on coding using Scratch Junior on our ipads.

Summer 1- Week 3

Stars of the Week: Lennon and Phoebe

Class 1 enjoyed planting beans in Science this week. We talked about what plants needed to grow and are looking forward to measuring the growth of our beans over the coming weeks.

We have carried on with our maths unit on weight and have been working on finding the mass of two objects using balance scales and our number facts.

In English Class 1 enjoyed creating new characters for our class book Traction Man is Here. Keep an eye out next week for our completed stories!

Summer 1- Week 2

Stars of the Week: Phoebe and Maxwell

In computing this week we have been learning about algorithms. Phoebe and Maxwell explained clearly why we would need a clear set of instructions to programme our Beebots! We practised giving our partners clear instructions in the right order to see if they could make a matching Lego structure without them seeing what ours looked like. Next week we are looking forward to giving the Beebots some steps to follow.

Class 1 worked hard in gymnastics to move gracefully on their tiptoes along a balance beam. They discovered it was much easier to balance with outstretched arms and careful movements. We will keep working on landing softly with bent knees when jumping off the balance beam.

On Tuesday we enjoyed visiting Redcross Gardens to go on a wild plant hunt. We found out that dandelions and daisies are the most common wild plant in our local area. Class 1 are looking forward to planting beans next week!

Class 1 Spelling tests

Dear Parents and Carers,

We will be starting weekly spelling tests in Class 1 from Friday 30th April. The children will have ten new words to learn each week, these will be sent home a week in advance so there is plenty of time for the children to learn them. The new spelling books will be sent home in your child’s reading folder this afternoon.

Thank you for your support with this!

Summer 1- Week 1

Stars of the Week: Josephine and Rory

Josephine and Rory have done some brilliant writing in their non chronological reports about Polar Bears. They remembered lots of interesting facts!

We have had a great start to the summer term in Class 1. In Maths we began our new unit on length and height and have been exploring non standard units of measure. We measured things in our classroom using hands, feet, straws and cubes. Have a look at the photos below to see us measuring carefully. We practised using the key language, for example ‘the book is 8 cubes long’.

Our racket skills are improving in PE, we have been working on hitting the ball to our partners and have been getting much more confident with our hand eye coordination.

Next week we are looking forward to starting our new Science unit on plants and learning about Monet in Art.

Well done for a great first week back, Class 1!

Spring 2- Week 6

Stars of the Week: Evelyn and Ezra

This week in Maths we have been practising counting in tens and ones. We have been looking at two digit numbers up to 50 and describing how many tens and how many ones each number has. We enjoyed using dienes and working with our partners to make the number on a place value chart.

Class 1 have had an excellent 4 weeks back at school. We are looking forward to lots more exciting learning opportunities in the Summer term!

Spring 2- Week 5

Stars of the Week: Justin and Zoe

On Wednesday Class 1 showed some impressive racket skills in PE. Everyone enjoyed counting how many times they could hit their beanbag into the air without it falling off!

In Computing this week we started learning how to use the Paint software on our laptops. The children worked brilliantly in partners to create a title page for a traditional tale. We will continue working on these next week.

We enjoyed spotting signs of spring in our local area and creating some artwork to express what we saw. We have produced some lovely paintings of daffodils, spring blossoms and trees with green buds to brighten up our classroom!

Well done to everyone in Class 1 who worked so hard on their assessment booklets in English and Maths this week. You should be proud of your determination and persistence.

Spring 2- Week 4

Stars of the Week: Miriam and Albert

We have been working hard on writing our own versions of The Three Little Pigs this week. It has been wonderful to read the creative ideas Class 1 has come up with. We have been thinking of interesting adjectives to describe our new characters and remembering to read our work back to check it makes sense.

In RE this week we have been thinking about the events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Class 1 had some thoughtful opinions on how the disciples would have been feeling.

Look at these photos below of us working well with our partners in Maths. We have been using part whole models and counters to partition numbers. We worked together to find the different addition and subtraction number sentences for each part whole model.

Our dance this week was based on April showers in the season of spring. We learnt about dancing in unison and what it meant to improvise.

Spring 2 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Everyone in Class 1!

Well done to all the children in Class 1. Everyone has settled back in to school so beautifully, you should be proud of yourselves.

This week the children have been working hard on addition in Maths. We are getting confident with our number bonds to 20 and using a number line to add. In English this week we have been learning the story of The Three Little Pigs. We will be writing our own versions of this traditional tale next week.

The children enjoyed their first lesson in our dance unit based on the seasons. We watched an ice dance and tried to move our bodies in similar ways; leaping, spinning and balancing!
