Nursery help Dogger who has got lost again.

Dogger turned up at Nursery last week feeling very wet and cold. It looked like he had been outside all night! We thought of lots of ways to take care of him and came up with some wonderful solutions to get Dogger home to his owner, Dave.

In the end, we decided to build a map with blocks and use our fantastic writing skills to label the map. It shows the way from Nursery to Dave and Dogger’s house, via rivers, towers and roads.

It looks like Dogger will have everything he needs to find the way home.

Dogger

This week, Nursery began reading Dogger by Shirley Hughes, and used it as a starting point for lots of active learning. We have a toy shop role play indoors, and are creating a fairground outdoors. We have been writing tickets and price labels, using money and trying out our skills on the fairground games.

Nursery have really been challenging themselves with their mathematical language in the toy shop!

Healthy Eating

Welcome back and Happy New Year to all our families, we hope you had a very restful Christmas!

Nursery came back to school full of energy and excited to learn as we began to think about our first topic, healthy eating.

We are working together with Reception to create a Healthy Eating display for the school hall. While Reception have been busy making healthy foods, Nursery have been thinking about WHY we should eat healthily. We started by talking about what might be inside our bodies, and how foods like fruit and milk help us grow and keep us ready to learn.

We decided to make a big skeleton to remind people to look after their bones and bodies!

These photos show how we measured different parts of our bodies and made sure the skeleton had the right number of fingers and toes. We checked in the body book to make sure we hadn’t missed any parts of the skeleton in our model.

Here are some of the things Nursery had to say about the body and healthy eating:

“We should eat breakfast first, lunch second and dinner last.” – Xavier
“Eat healthy food” – Meadow
We have a skeleton “for not falling down” – Josh
“There are little bones in our hands” – Lola

Well done to Nursery for all your hard work and thoughtful ideas about healthy eating!
