Curriculum Evening

Thank you to all the parents who came along on Tuesday evening.

Below you can find the Powerpoint presented on the day.

If you did not receive the handouts, they will be given to you at next weeks Parents Evening.

The key points from the evening were:
– Please familiarise your self with the Early Years Learning Goals, as these are what children are assessed against at the end of the year.
Literacy:
Phonics: We looked at phonics and how a new sound is introduced. Reception is currently working in Phase 3.
Writing: Focus on recording all the sounds heard in a word and writing sentences.
Reading: It is important to be hearing children at home at least 3 times a week. We have now started Guided Reading in class with
some children.
Numeracy
We looked at the content covered in Reception. Examples of what we do in class were shared and also ideas of resources you can use at home such as buttons, marbles and board games to help develop numerical thinking.
– Thank you for working at home with children, it really makes a difference! In the handouts (and on the slides) there are lots of ideas of more things you can do at home.

If you have any questions, please feel free to bring them along to Parents Evening and we can discuss them.

PE with Elliott

On Wednesday last week we were lucky enough to have Elliott take us for PE. He first warmed us up so that our muscles were nice and ready for the lesson. Next, we ran some relay races; first just running, then having to stop at one end to do push ups, sit ups, jumping in and out of hoops, stepping our whole bodies through the hoops and then balancing beanbags on our head – PHEW! We were tired – but our lesson was only halfway through!
Elliott then taught us a game called Treasure. It meant that we could all practise our dodging skills that we have been working on. The player that won was the first person to have 3 beanbags in their hoop. Everyone did such a fantastic job! Elliott told Miss Godsell that he had never played this game with 4 and 5 year olds but he was very impressed!
Thank you Elliott for teaching us some new P.E skills!
Here is some photos of what we got up to!
