Performance Tables 2015

The school performance tables were published on Thursday last week and the school is very pleased with the results.

The proportion of pupils achieving Level 5s for Maths, Writing and Reading combined was highest in the borough. The average grades achieved by pupils was also joint highest in the borough (5B).

The outcomes are, overall, fantastic and we are very proud of all the children who worked so hard for these results. Thank you to staff, governors and parents for their support.

Christmas Service

The school’s Christmas Service at the Cathedral was today, featuring beautiful singing from all children, and was led by Year 5 who performed ‘Rock the Baby’, a Christmas musical of eight songs.

It was a wonderful service and the children performed brilliantly.

Many parents used the word ‘amazing’ and one commented how the Christmas service makes it suddenly feel like Christmas!

Science Displays

The school produced some excellent displays showcasing our scientific skills last week and they can be found in the KS1 & EYFS corridor.

The standard of learning is very high across all year groups, and pupils and staff take pride in the presentation of their learning activities, resulting in high quality displays such as these.

Bishop Godfrey

The school warmly welcomed Bishop Godfrey today as he and his wife Albertina visited the school on their visit to Southwark from the Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe.

Bishop Godfrey led assembly and told the pupils that the situation at Daramombe Primary School has become more stable. He mentioned that Daramombe had recently won an award for inclusion and that the headteacher, Denford Chuma, had worked very hard towards it.

Bishop Godfrey , Albertina and Father Stephen then toured the school with Mr Scott and they commented on the peaceful atmosphere, the wonderful displays and the interactive teaching. They later discussed how we will keep the links with Daramombe strong.

It was a pleasure to host the visit and we look forward to seeing them again!

Inclusion: Centre of Excellence

When the school was awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark earlier this year, the evaluator, Pauline Roberts, mentioned in her report:

“I am of the opinion that the school fully meets the standard required by the Inclusion Quality Mark. I also recommend that the school considers becoming a Centre of Excellence for the IQM so that its excellent work on inclusion can be shared with other schools.

I am pleased to inform you that the school was successful in this and is now a Centre of Excellence for the Inclusion Quality Mark. This ensures that Cathedral School joins just a handful of schools across the country who share their expertise on inclusion on behalf of this quality mark.

This is an excellent accolade and opportunity, and thanks go to Mr Rojas in particular for leading the school in this area.

The Lion King, Jr

158670af36d279d722a864deb7e58635The Lion King Jr has been performed by Year 6 this week, supported by Year 6.

The Mayor of Southwark said it was the most professional production she had ever seen and Jim Eshelby, Head of Standards at Southwark council wrote to say this:

——

“Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed your production “The Lion King” on Tuesday.

The whole performance from the programme, scenery, sound effects to costumes and the cast was just a wonderful experience. Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to Class 6.

There were some fantastic performances from the cast overall… I had to keep reminding myself that you only have 25 year 6 pupils! It really was outstanding!

Anyway thank you again for a perfect way to end the term.”

A big thank you to everyone involved. Enjoy the last night, Year 6!

Cathedral School Election Poll

Years 1 to 6 today were shown videos summarising the policies of the 5 main political parties of England. Afterwards, we held a poll in each class and these are the results. The statement on the ballet sheet was: ‘Choose your preferred party’.

UK Poll ballot UK Poll

If these results were to be replicated across the UK today in terms of seats gained by parties, a Labour and Green coalition would be the likeliest make-up of Government.

2014 KS2 Results

The results for the National KS2 tests, which were taken earlier this year, were last week published for all primary schools in the country.

The average score achieved by Cathedral School pupils in the examinations (Maths, Writing, Reading and Grammar) was the highest in the borough.

This news is excellent for the school and was on the back of being included in the Sunday Times ‘Top 600 Schools’ report published in November and which used 2013’s results.

Obviously, these tests of the ‘core’ curriculum are one part of the school’s success and we are very aware there are countless other ways to measure children’s successes in the school’s broad and balanced curriculum.

Nevertheless, these results are a testament to the hard work, dedication and talents of the pupils and staff of the school. Well done!
