Below are the spellings for this week’s Spelling Test in Class 2. The theme for this week’s spellings is – days of the week. All of this week’s spelling words must be written with a capital letter at all times as they are names.

Arithmetic – making totals by using addition

Below is an outline of how to make totals

1. Write down any 2-digit number, e.g. 36.
2. Partition it in to tens and units, e.g. 30 and 6 (3 tens and 6 units)
3. Make the same number in five different ways, e.g. 20 + 10 + 6; 15 + 15 + 3 + 3; 10 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 1; 29 + 7; 25 + 11.

Extension Challenge

Make the same number using coins, e.g. 20p + 10p + 5p + 1p; 10p + 10p + 10p + 2p + 2p + 2p
