Weekly Spellings – plural words
Below are the spellings for this week’s Spelling Test in Class 2. The theme for this week’s spellings is – plural words. The children need to know the spelling of all words, however the test will only include the plural words.
Plural es – words ending with ch, x, sh, ss, s
- catch – catches
- church – churches
- fox – foxes
- box – boxes
- fish – fishes
- dish – dishes
- class – classes
- glass – glasses
- gas – gases
- bus – buses
Extension Challenge – plural ies – words ending in y
- puppy – puppies
- lolly – lollies
- fly – flies
- city – cities
- body – bodies
- teddy – teddies
Additional writing challenge – write these words in a command (commands are instructions)
Put the dishes away when you’ve cleaned them.
Take care if you see foxes in the garden.
Arithmetic – equivalent calculations
Below is an outline of how to write equivalent calculations
- Write down a multiplication calculation, e.g. 3 x 5 = 15
- Write a different calculation that gives the same answer, e.g. 10 + 5 = 15
- Write the two calculations in one number sentence, e.g. 3 x 5 = 10 + 5
Extension Challenge
Writing greater than calculations using the greater than sign >
- Write down a multiplication calculation, e.g. 3 x 5 = 15
- Write a different calculation that gives a smaller answer, e.g. 10 – 4 = 6
- Write the two calculations in one number sentence, e.g. 3 x 5 > 10 – 4
