Arithmetic – Quartering numbers
Below is an outline of how to develop skills in quartering.
- Count in 4s
- Write each number from 0 to 40, e.g. 0, 4, 8, etc
- Halve each of these numbers, e.g. half of 4 is 2.
- Halve again, e.g. half of 4 is 2 and half of 2 is 1 so ¼ of 4 is 1.
Extension Challenge
- Multiply the answers by 3 to calculate 3/4, e,g ¼ of 4 is 1 so multiply 1 by 3 to calculate ¾ of 4.
The tests will be on Friday 15th April.
