Charles Dickens’ London

Today, Class 5 visited the Charles Dickens Museum in Central London. On the way, we looked out for things we could mention in our historical fiction – as we know that accurate detail is vital to make our stories credible. What details from these pictures could you use in your story?

Inside the museum, we looked out for details from inside the home that we could include in our stories. What is that hedgehog doing there? What other animals were there in Charles Dickens’ home?

We also made our own butter, using Victorian kitchen implements and Charles Dickens’ wife’s recipe. It was delicious! Do you know how to make butter? If not, look at our pictures to find out”

I thoroughly enjoyed our trip today; I especially liked making butter, because it was strange to see how much harder even cooking was back then!

It was really fun and interesting that we were actually in Charles Dickens house. It was also fun because we got to make and try butter. Thank you Mrs Scott and Ms Fullana.

My highlight of the day was making butter and going into Charles Dickens room, it was like an ancient temple that had just been found, and we where the first to visit it. I would recommend you to visit the Charles Dickens museum. We got to dress up in funny clothes that servants in Charles Dickens’ time would wear. This was an extraordinary trip. 🙂

All the houses looked like they really were Victorian and Charles Dickens house was incredibly big.

I really enjoyed the trip – wow it was so amazing! I felt so embarrassed because of the pictures but it was really nice to be smiling with my friends! I think the best part was having a tour around the house and pretending to be Charles Dickens servants.
