Class 5 wow the audience at the Royal Festival Hall

Friday 6th June saw Class 5 visit the Royal Festival Hall to perform in Southwark Music Service’s concert. It was an unbelievable day from the perfect weather, to the inspirational walk to the venue along the South Bank to, most importantly of all, the awe inspiring performance by Class 5.

Many thanks to Sandra and Pauline for helping to organise the performance and many thanks must go to Class 5 for it was their fantastic behaviour and musical talent that meant they got chosen to be the class to perform the African drumming routines. Truly inspirational all round.

Please leave a comment below with your thoughts and reflections on the event.

At the royal festival hall I enjoyed myself as well as learning a lot more things and I hope I have the opportunity to do it again. There was a group which sounded like an army.

Friday was really very inspiring and I learnt so much from it. To me, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it would be fantastic if we got to do it again. I am quite positive that my fellow peers would say the same thing.

We were also extremely privileged to work with Sandra and Pauline, who were really supportive and kind. To work with them again would be wonderful and would make the class so happy.

I really enjoyed going to the festival hall and performing in front of so many people. It was so fun playing the African drums with Sandra and Pauline, and both of our tunes, in my opinion, were amazing! It was an opportunity of a life time and was not worth missing. I would certainly like to do something like that again!

I was terrified a first but with the drums beating and Sandra looking straight at me, I knew it was no time to be scared! My heart continued racing until the day was done. I recall slapping the drum excitedly like a toddler in the practice but when we started the real thing, the music enveloped me and I played the song as best as I could! Overall, there were no words to describe the day. Even mesmerizing, fabulous and inspirational don’t sum up the say well enough! There’s only one word to sum it up…

    “Wicked…”

The trip was amazing we saw other schools and they were as good as us. We were allowed to do 3 pieces so we did two African drumming pieces and a song. Thank you to the people that organised the trip. Thank you to Sandra and Pauline who showed us what to do and when we did something wrong they went through it! Thank you again.

Last Friday was really inspiring and I learnt a lot about drumming and dancing.  It was a good time for me as I had the  time to  play the drum, dance with my friends and sing.

With the help of Sandra and Pauline we were able to play the drum beautifully. I think we were the best school among the lot.

I also enjoyed the other peformaces too! The best group was the army one were they sounded like an army marching and with the silver drums and jingly bells they cleverly made it into a beat and a kind of dance and song. WELL DONE GUYS!!! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

My Day at the Royal Festival Hall with Class 5:
I came into school looking through my Reading Journal so everything was perfect and the last on the list was to go on the Trip and have a good time. I was buzzing to go on the trip so once I had completed my Reading Journal, I choose my partner and we walked and walked and walked until we arrived. I was buzzing to go inside so jolly and bubbly. We arrived and we sat down, put our bags and pack lunch away. We started to practice what we were doing and then all the schools came in. I was chosen to introduce our performance and I was buzzing to do that. We had our run through and that went really well.

After that it was time for yummy lunch. It was a sunny day so we found our perfect spot and we started eating our delicious lunch. We talked laughed and joked around, after we had finished our lunch it was time to go back to the Royal Festival Hall for the actual performance. Everyone was looking forward to it but felt really nervous because everyone looked prepared and ready to perform. Then it was our turn we started with the first drumming piece and then we went with our second drumming piece. Everyone was moving around smiling and clapping that just put an elated smile on my face.

Of course we couldn’t have done it without Pauline and Sandra. Thank you Sandra and Pauline, and of course the teachers, for letting us have a splendid day. The other performances were fantastic. Well done Class 5 we impressed another audience. What a day and all I can say is that the trip was WICKED!!!!!!! Thank you everyone! Well done Class 5. What a fabulous day!

I really enjoyed Friday and want to do it again. I enjoyed listening to other schools play their instrument that they have been leaning how to play. I found everyone’s songs interesting. When it came to our chance to play I found it really fun and other people like it so much that they joined in clapping to our music. Going to The Royal Festival Hall was a great opportunity. I enjoyed the performance so much, it was so exciting that my heart was beating so fast.

    How the day went:
At first we got to school.
Then we set of to Royal Festival Hall.
When we got there we saw all the drums siting there, ready to be played.
After that we saw Sandra and Pauline – our teachers (then they had a little practice).
After that we listened to everyone’s practice in the rehearsal.
Then we left to go and have our lunch (yummy picnic).
After around 45 mins we went back to The Royal Festival Hall.
And then it was the real thing, we preformed in front of a crowd this time. It was so exciting after my group (group one) the next group came up (group two), we did 3 pieces of music. We did singing and two drumming pieces and at the end everyone clapped.

This has been one of the best trips ever.

I really enjoyed playing the African drums at the Royal Festival Hall. I think that our African drumming pieces were really cool and I hope that Sandra and Pauline do the routine again with us soon. I also really liked the other schools performances but I really liked at the end when we were all singing the song Walking on Sunshine. Over all, I thought that it was a brilliant once in a lifetime experience! 😉

I loved every bit of the trip and I really liked all the performances and the best bit in the concert was when we were all singing ‘Walking on Sunshine’. It was a great start with Kiran, Jack and Marko doing some moves and then everyone just was Walking on Sunshine. I wish we can do it again because that was one of the best trips i have ever been on. That has to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. That trip was fantastic. Thank you Sandra and Pauline and well done Class 5 everyone was up on their feet. Plus we had the moves!

Friday was really cool! Here`s how it went:
When I came in, there was a slide on the board saying we had to do all these things in our guided reading book, and at the bottom it said go and have fun! So when everyone was finished Mr Antcliffe had to look at two books (mine and Tianna`s) to see if they were perfect, and they were. So we set off with our partners – mine was Kiran – we walked the whole way to the concert hall in the Southbank with the parents, which were my Mum, Oisin`s Mum and Eleanor`s Mum. When we got there we looked for a place to sit and when we found one we got some chairs from the other side of the room. Once the other schools were there, we started with the practice. The host asked everyone representing their school in the first half to stand up and tell the other schools what school they are and what their doing and who they practiced with. Our representative was Vanessa. We went  the fourth school to perform. St Joseph next door were there and their representative was a girl called Layla and she was so loud, I was partially deaf for about 1 hour. After the practice we had our lunch next to the London Eye. After Lunch we went back to the hall and other  as  a lot of adults there. Marko`s mum and dad turned up. Then it was the actual thing we waited for about 10 minutes but it seemed like 10 hours. Then it was us well the first group but I was doing the beat on the mini maracca. Then it was my group me and Oisin started off with the singing and then Vanessa, Ayisat and Tianna sung and then we started. We were really well then we finished. Then we started singing ain`t gonna let. Then after the other schools had finished we sung Walking on Sunshine our favourite, me and Kiran made up the actions. After the song it was time to go. That was my day from start to finish:-)

Of Friday 6th, all I can say is that it was… really fun. It was a really good opportunity to show off our drumming skills, to see what the other schools were doing, and what level of skills they have. It was also good to be inside, out of the hot sun!

I especially liked hearing the Samba, as it was very rhythmic and exotic. This was also a bit strange because we were playing in the Royal Festival Hall! The only thing that went wrong is that during the performance, the lady singing at the front sung the second verse of the second song (Walking On Sunshine) twice instead of singing the first and then second verse of it. Apart from that, I thought it was great. 😉

It was truly one of the best experiences of my life, we even got to hear Year 8 sing ‘love me again’ (John Newman ). If you ask me, it was beyond wicked – that’s all I have to say.

I thought that the trip was inspirational because I enjoyed listening to all the different music. There were violins, recorders, drums, trumpets and ucerlalies and every school preformed three pieces for the audience. Our school performed two drumming pieces and a harmony called ‘Si si si’.

I think our day was really good and if they gave this opportunity to other kids I’m sure they’d be pleased.

When we first got there, we went to the room we were doing the show. It was quite big, then we did the rehearsal, and the lady told us it was great. Sandra and Pauline were really happy with it.

We ate our lunch and we did the show with no mistakes – I loved it. Thank you Pauline and Sandra ! 🙂
