A Busy First Term!

As part of World Faith week, at the beginning of last half term, Class 5 looked at two traditional religious stories. We compared the themes within the story of Rama and Sita, and the story of Hanukkah. Both stories linked with our theme of light. The pictures below show the children recreating sections of the story through a series of freeze frames.

In literacy last half term we based most of our writing around a book, Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. Please ask your child to explain what has happened in the book so far!

Class 5 have written diary entries as Maia (the main character). As well as a persuasive letter that aimed to entice Maia to stay in London rather than go to live in the Amazon. We have also written an amazing descriptive narrative. Our descriptive narratives were created carefully by firstly producing a post-it note plan. Here the children were given the stimulus for what should be put in each paragraph so that they could focus on using a range of descriptive devices and generating descriptive phrases.  A paragraph at a time, the children then wrote and edited their stories. The finished narratives are spectacular, all members of Class 5 are proud of their work (as they should be).

Stars and Planets were the focus of our latest piece of writing as the children produced an information leaflet, the result of which can be seen on the Science display board in school (pictured below).
