Holiday Homework!

Today, Class 5 have been given a small work pack that they can work through over the summer. This is not compulsory homework but I would advise that they do some work over the holidays to help to consolidate what they have learnt this year. As you are aware, year 6 is a very important year and it is essential that the children do not forget this years learning, as it will be built upon in year 6. Below I have also listed a couple of websites where you can access other activities.

I hope this helps. Have a great summer!

Marvellous Moscow!

As part of international week, Class 5 learnt all about Russia, with a particular focus on the capital- Moscow.

In Literacy, we produced information leaflets on Moscow (see photos below). We also produced a fantastic piece of artwork depicting Saint Basil’s Cathedral (see photos below). The work produced during this week has now been used to create a lovely classroom display.

Class 5- Did you enjoy International week? What was your favourite activity for that week? Below, share an interesting fact about Moscow (or Russia).

The Silver Sword

As our class text, we are reading The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier. This is an exciting, fictional text based on our topic, WW2. At the moment, we are about half way through.

Class 5, what do you think of the book so far? What do you think will happen? Make your predictions below!

Snap Happy!

As part of our Art work (for Art week), Class 5 went out and about in the local area to take photos, using the Ipads. After we had taken the photos, we used an application called Snapseed to filter them. Some of these images have now been selected as the background for our Art work. What do you think of them? Great, aren’t they? David Bailey, watch out!

Our Royal Festival Hall Performance!

WOW! Well done to Class 5 for their spectacular performance at the Royal Festival Hall yesterday evening (Wednesday 11th November). Since last half term, Class 5 have spent their music lessons learning and composing a variety of songs with a wonderful musician, Pete Letanka. It all culminated last night in a one-off performance. For those of you who missed the jazz concert, here are a couple pictures. The videos will follow shortly.

A Busy First Term!

As part of World Faith week, at the beginning of last half term, Class 5 looked at two traditional religious stories. We compared the themes within the story of Rama and Sita, and the story of Hanukkah. Both stories linked with our theme of light. The pictures below show the children recreating sections of the story through a series of freeze frames.

In literacy last half term we based most of our writing around a book, Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. Please ask your child to explain what has happened in the book so far!

Class 5 have written diary entries as Maia (the main character). As well as a persuasive letter that aimed to entice Maia to stay in London rather than go to live in the Amazon. We have also written an amazing descriptive narrative. Our descriptive narratives were created carefully by firstly producing a post-it note plan. Here the children were given the stimulus for what should be put in each paragraph so that they could focus on using a range of descriptive devices and generating descriptive phrases.  A paragraph at a time, the children then wrote and edited their stories. The finished narratives are spectacular, all members of Class 5 are proud of their work (as they should be).

Stars and Planets were the focus of our latest piece of writing as the children produced an information leaflet, the result of which can be seen on the Science display board in school (pictured below).
