What a great week back we have had. This half term we have begun to learn about North and South America. As an additional challenge in Geography we tried to name all of the states within the USA! Did you know that there are 50?

Autumn 1 – Week 7
Year 5 Stars of the Week: All of Year 5
What a brilliant half term we have had in Year 5. On Monday we began our week with a trip to the Chocolate Museum where we made our own Maya-style chocolate bar! Chocolate without sugar tastes very different to the chocolate that we are used to but we learnt a lot about the importance of knowing where your chocolate is from. Did you know that the Maya used to put chilli in their chocolate?
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we held our DT exhibition where we had the opportunity to show off our marvellous moving marionette puppets that we had made in class. If you want to know how to make them, then just read our instructions in our Extended Writing books!
Autumn 1 – Week 6
Year 5 stars of the week: Swithun and Rocco
This week we have created our Book Bingo cards full of new books that we would like to read.
We began by recommending books to each other based on our interests. We then created our ‘wish list’ of books that we can’t wait to read!
Year 5 love reading so if you would like some inspiration of new books to read then please speak to a member of Year 5.
Next Monday Year 5 will be visiting the Chocolate Museum as part of our Maya Unit so please remember to bring a packed lunch to school. Thank you in advance.

Autumn 1 – Week 3
Year 5 stars of the week: Gabriel and Zara
This week we have been learning more about the Maya civilisation and exploring the different Maya gods. In English, we wrote character descriptions about them and focused on using ambitious adjectives to improve our vocabulary. Autumn 1 – Week 2
Year 5 stars of the week: Amiah and Theo
This week we began learning about our Solar System. Did you know that there are 8 planets in our Solar System: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
During Extended Writing we wrote factfiles about these planets and really enjoyed learning more about them.
