This week we began learning about our Solar System. Did you know that there are 8 planets in our Solar System: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
During Extended Writing we wrote factfiles about these planets and really enjoyed learning more about them.
If you would like to read them then please visit the Year 5 classroom where they are on display!

In Year 5, we have been looking at Our Code of Conduct which we wrote together. These are the rules and types of behaviours that we have all agreed to follow to ensure that we have a happy and enjoyable year together.
1) Be a good friend to everyone and respect our differences.
2) Treat everyone fairly
3) Everyone has the right to an opinion
4) Always believe in yourself
Thank you to Margaret for creating this display to remind us of these rules in our classroom.

On Friday 21st June, Cathedral School were lucky enough to welcome the Olympic gymnast Steve Frew to our school.
It was a wonderful opportunity and we took part in lots of different fitness exercises such as:
* Spotty Dog
* Leg Drives
* Star Jumps
* Press-ups
Steve Frew told us about how important it is to follow your dreams – no matter if they are big or small. What a great message to follow – thank you for coming to our school Steve!
Summer 2, Week 4
Year 5 stars of the week: Sienna and Fiona
This week, Year 5 began writing our playscripts for our Myths and Legends unit. Working in groups, we have begun to create the first scenes to our plays which we look forward to performing in due course.
Furthermore, we have also started creating our comic book strips. Year 5 have really improved their drawing skills over this half term and I am so proud of the progress that they have made. Keep it up Superstars!
Summer 2 – Week 3
This week we have been fortunate to visit the Malborough where we took part in some additional fitness games. It was a lot of fun and everyone got involved.
We are already looking forward to our next session – thank Miss Fishwick for organising this.
Summer 2, Week 2
Year 5 stars of the week: Albert and Caitlyn
This week, we have begun our topic ‘Mapping’.
Firstly, we looked at features on a map and discussed why certain symbols were used to represent them. Then we had a look at famous mountain ranges and located them in different countries using our atlases. This has really increased our understanding of the world.
We look forward to next week when we shall be learning about 16 point compasses!
Summer 2 – Week 1
Year 5 stars of the week: Teddy and Julia
Last half term, Year 5 visited the Imperial War Museum where we had a great time meeting Bernard and Ron.
Bernard was born in Dulwich and was evacuated during the Blitz when he was 12 years old. It was fascinating listening to his stories and experiences of what life was like for him during the war.
Ron joined HMS Belfast and sailed all the way to Korea to fight in the Korean War. Ron worked as a wireless operator and was very helpful in explaining how Morse code works. He still remembers it now and sometimes even translates adverts into Morse code!
Year 5, comment in the space below and explain what your favourite part of the trip was.
