A Very Exciting Couple of Weeks

Last week, we were lucky enough to have 5 firefighters and their fire engine visit from the Dowgate Fire Station.

They talked to us about what the firefighters wear to keep safe and we even had a chance to try on a real firefighter’s helmet! We learned about all the different jobs that firefighters have to do and were surprised at how much more they do than just putting out fires!

We had a chance to sit in the fire engine, where they showed us how loud the siren is and talked about all the different parts such as the ladder and the special register for the firefighters in the back seat.

One of the most exciting parts was that we had a chance to spray the hose, seeing what it’s like to be a firefighter!
We really enjoyed our visit from the firefighters. Here are some pictures:

This week, something very special happened in Reception.
On Wednesday, we noticed a little door had appeared in our classroom – and no one knew where it had come from!

The children thought it must’ve been put there by one of the elves when they were visiting from the North Pole!
The next day, a book arrived from the North Pole and it was still covered in snow! The children have been excitedly filling it with letters to Santa.

It got even more exciting this morning when a little Santa figure appeared just outside the door with an advent calendar containing 25 mini books. We can’t wait to start reading them!

Practise for our Nativity is now well underway. Thank you for your support in helping the children to learn their lines at home. It really makes such a difference to their confidence in saying their lines in rehearsals!

Just a reminder of the important dates coming up over the next couple of weeks:

We will be singing a song during the Christmas service on Friday 9th December at 9.30 am in Southwark Cathedral. We will walk the children to and from the Cathedral. The service will finish at around 10:30am.

The EYFS Nativity will be performed on Wednesday 14th December at 9am. Straight after the performances, grown-ups (a max of 2 per child) are invited to participate in our Stay ‘n’ Play sessions.

Miss Keohane and Sara look forward to seeing you!

Finally, a huge thank you to Henry Y’s Grandmother for our knitted Nativity. It is absolutely amazing and the children are so excited to play with it!
