Father Michael

100_1237

As our class governor, Father Michael came straight from his Collective Worship (on Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and the meanings behind the Cathedral’s new sculpture) to Year 6 today to see a Literacy lesson.

How does Father Michael help Class 6?

How does Father Michael help Cathedral School?

He was interested to see all of the preparation work that we have done for our fantasy stories. This includes:

  • Character sketches
  • Word banks
  • Checklists
  • Whiteboard work
  • Reading The Hobbit
  • Dictionary work
  • Grammar and punctuation work

What were you most proud to share with Father Michael?

How are you going to make your story successful?

Which things from the list above have you found it the most helpful to do?

Junior Doctors Visit Cathedral School

Year 6 had a fascinating morning, with doctors from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. We learnt CPR (so that we can provide clear instructions to adults – it’s very tiring!); we learnt and practiced the recovery position with our friends…and sang Staying Alive!

Afterwards, we went back to the classroom and had the chance to ask some questions of our own – it was really interesting!

What did you ask and what was the answer?

What did you learn and how will this be helpful in the future?

How has meeting these brilliant doctors affected you?

The Piano

Class 6 have worked hard, writing short stories with flashbacks that will break your heart. Read with caution – they might make you cry!

What tense are the stories in? Does it change?

What person are the stories in?

What literary devices have these authors used to take control of their readers’ imaginations?

R.E. At Cathedral School

At Cathedral School, R.E. is very important to us. This week, we have been discussing what we enjoy most in R.E. at school, and advising our teachers on what we would like to do more of.

What do you enjoy in R.E.?

What have been some of your most memorable experiences?

What would you like to do more of?

Is there anything that we can do better?

Arts Week

The first week back was Arts Week. The theme was Colourful London.

Class 6 have thought about what makes London such a colourful place. We found landmarks from the city which are clearly recognisable, and thought about contrasting colours to make them stand out. We then investigated African wax print patterns (which you see in many parts of London – on clothing, and in markets and shops) to create our collage. They are now on display in the hall – go and have  look it if you can!

Which landmarks can you spot?

What makes these collages successful?
