Looking after our teeth

Many thanks to Mary Foucher, Cathedral School Governor and dental hygienist, who has been visiting each class to talk to the children about the importance dental hygiene. She discussed the importance of making healthy food choices and reminded children of the correct way the brush their teeth.

We are very grateful to The Dental Surgery, The Corn Exchange 55 Mark Lane London EC3R 7NE,  who kindly donated a new     toothbrush for each child in the school.

Sports Week

All pupils at Cathedral School participated in a number of sporting activities throughout the week.

Thank you for your understanding regarding the Junior School Sports Day this year; we had to be creative with the space available as the Marlborough is being used for the Bankside Open Trust Pop-Up Olympics. Well done to Miss Watts for organising both Sports Days.

Pearly Kings and Queens Fete

Many thanks to all of the parents who organised our fete. The event was a huge success and even the rain couldn’t dampen everybody’s fun.  Highlights included a pearly king and queen fashion show, bouncy castle, face painting, human fruit machine, visit from the Pearly King of Bow Bells and Pearly Queen of  the Old Kent Road, a fantastic raffle and a wonderful selection of stalls. Once again many thanks to everyone involved in organising this wonderful afternoon.

A visit from the Right Honourable David Blunkett MP

On Thursday we were lucky enough to receive a visit from the Right Honourable David Blunkett MP and his guide dog Cosby. The visit came about because one of our Key Stage 2 pupils was writing an independent project on Braille; as part of her research she wrote to Mr Blunkett and he responded, accepting her invitation to visit Cathedral School. All of the children enjoyed meeting Mr Blunkett and Cosby during a special assembly. He was a very engaging speaker and entertained us with stories about his experiences as a teacher, his political career and how one of his guide dogs used to enjoy stealing ice-creams from people on the bus!

International Evening

Dear Parents,

International Evening 2012

Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Friday 25th May. This sell-out evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, dance, music and poetry. The children’s performances were astonishing and included Hungarian dance, African songs, a karate performance, a range of poetry, American Street Dance and a variety of music played on the accordion, piano, recorder and flute as well as an excellent performance from the Cathedral School Choir. During the first half the audience were led in a chorus of God Save the Queen by a child in Year 2.  The incredible and very professional Cathedral School Mum’s Choir treated us to songs from Nigeria and Mexico and parent, Vanessa Fenton, who has spent 13 years at the Royal Ballet Company, performed an amazing dance from Russia. The Cathedral School Staff Choir started the evening off with their interpretation of By the Rivers of Babylon and Mr Scott also sang and was the compere for the evening. The performances finished with a rousing rendition of Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner, sang by the audience and performers alike.

International Evening was also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents and staff who provided the food for the interval.

We have recently been awarded the British Arts Council’s Arts Mark Gold Award for the fourth time. We are incredibly proud of the achievement and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase the quality of our arts provision. It is also a chance to demonstrate our commitment to developing International links and celebrating our own diverse community; values which played a part in our International School Award which we received in the autumn.

Finally I would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening and especially Mr Rojas who co-ordinated the event.

Best wishes,

Miss Oguz

Choir Concert

Dear Parents,

The Cathedral School Choir will be holding a concert in the school hall on the 26th April at 3:30pm to which you are all invited.  This, however, will not be an ordinary concert as you will have the opportunity to join in with singing many of the songs! They will be simple, repetitive songs that are easy to learn but lots of fun to sing, and I’m sure you will all love being able to sing along with our talented children. Of course, the choir will also perform some more challenging songs which you will be able to sit back and enjoy!

Your child will receive a letter about the concert this week. If you would like to come along to the concert, please fill in the slip on the letter and return it to the office. There will be no tickets but I would like to have an idea of numbers.

I hope you’ll be able to make it – it should be a lot of fun!

 Best wishes
