Class 4 animations

We recently went to London CLC to learn how to animate. Whilst we were there, we looked at lots of different types of animations, including a short film.

Then we set about creating our own! We made all the props ourselves out of paper and had to take a picture each time we moved anything.

We hope you enjoy watching them!

    Animation:
    1) Tape an iPad to a table and make sure it is in the right position.
2)Place a coloured peace of cardboard so you can place down your characters on a smooth surface.
3)Make your characters so you can place them all on the cardboard.
4)Next move your object/character then take a picture every time you do it.
    5) Then when you’ve moved your object/character make sure there’s nobodys hands, shoes or other body parts in your animation, because in the animation somebody’s going to be moving the object/character.
6)After that press play, and watch your animation to see if it’s good.
7)Also check over your work to see if there’s any mistakes so you can edit your work.
8)Finally share your animation with others so you can hear their opions.

    Animation
This is going to help you make your own animation.
    1.  Secure an iPad onto a tablle with masking tape so that the camera is just over the edge of the table and has a view of the floor.
    2.  Put a piece of A2 paper on the floor so that it is in the frame of the camera.
    3.  Cut out characters to put on your A2 piece of paper making sure that they are big enough to see but it too big that they can’t move around the page.
    4.  Pop the characters on the A2 piece of paper into the first position you want them to be
    5.  Move the characters slowly towards the next scene taking photographs each time you move them.
    6.  When you have finished this long process play back the animation and if feet or hands are in the way, take a better picture to replace the incorrect ones
    7.  When you are happy save your work
    8.  Show your friends and family

How to make a short animation

    1. First get an ipad and a piece of cardboard paper. Sellotape the cardboard to the floor. Stick the ipad onto the table but so that the camera lens can still see the cardboard on the floor. Find the app ‘I can animate’.

    2. Find a pencil and some colouring pencils and decide what your animation’s going to be about. Cut out your objects and people and colour them in.

    3. Decide where your objects and people are going to be for the first picture and when you’ve finished press take. Then you’ll have your first frame.

    4. Repeatedly do this but slowly move the characters and objects in the direction they’re going – two centimetres or less each time.

    5. Remember to always look every five minutes to check if you’ve made any mistakes then you won’t have any trouble deleting them. Try not to put a hand in one of the pictures.

    6. Whenever you get tired swap with someone else to do your job in case you’re moving them too far or it’ll look a bit weird.

    7. Try to get a good ending so that the audience will remember it!

That’s how you make a short animation.

Instructions on how to make a good anamation.
    1. Gather what you will need; you will need: a big sheet of paper, an ipad, pen, paper and a table.
    2. First of all, tape your ipad to the table. (But make sure that the camera on the ipad is looking over the table and onto the floor in front of it.)
    3. Now what you need to do is put your big sheet of paper in front of where the camera on your ipad is pointing. (But make sure you don’t move your sheet of paper after you have put it down on the floor.)
    4. What you must do now is start making the characters/objects that will be in your anamation. (You can make your characters/objects with pen and paper.)
    5. You must now place down on the sheet of paper all of your props. (But make sure that you place them in the right position.
    6. Now you should be ready to start filming! (Make sure you are using the app I Can Animate; if you are, move your character one small step and then press the red button and do it again and again.)
    7. You should now have done a few frames. (But make sure that you press the arrow button so you can have a run through of you anamation.)
    8. Now you know how to step by step make a really good anamation. (And also make sure you enjoyed making your anamation!)

    HOW TO MAKE A ANAMATION!

    1. Firstly get a big piece of paper and put it on the floor next to the table (make sure it is close to the table), then tape it carefully to the floor (make sure it is straight).

2.Next get an Ipad and carefully get the cover and tape it near the edge of the table (make sure the ipad screen is facing upwards and the sheet of paper is in frame).

3.After that get a piece of plain A4 paper and plan your story.

4.Then get some coloured paper and some plain paper and draw your characters (I suggest 3 characters but you can have a lot more). Remember to cut them out and colour them in.

    5. Next make a title and you are ready to start filming.

    6. After that, on your ipad go to the app called ‘I can  animate’. If you do not have that app get it from the appstore or search it on google!

    7. Then when you get on to the app get your title and take about ten pictures of it.

    8. Next, get your characters and put them on the edge of the paper and take 5 pictures. You should move them only 1cm ( you will know how much you moved your character because there will be a shadow from where it was before so check back to see you only moved it 1cm).

9.Make sure when you move the characters you don’t take a picture because if it does happen your hands will be in the scene, so remember to delete those pictures!
Also you should gradually check by pressing the play button and any pictures that are mistakes delete.

    10. Finally when you finish doing your story check through one more time and then you are done!**

If it is new to you, use 3-4 objects.—–4)Then search on your I-pad and find the app called I can Animate and press make.—— 5)Then cut out your pictures and color them in neatly, check again if your I-pad is in the correct place.Test if the characters are too small, if not carry on—–6) At this point, people may getting tired so swap over jobs, if not, the person moving will get tired and start making larger steps .—–7)Take small but steady steps, not too big otherwise it will look as if it is jumping not walking.—-8)Carry on with this process, once you have nearly finished off check if you have any hands or feet in it and edit it as well.—-9)At the end put the finishing touches on and make it look perfect, watch it again with your finishing touches and I bet it’s brilliant.—-10)Enjoy your animation!!!!!!!!!!!

When we went to CLC, we were looking at animating. We were told how to animate, and then we made our own animated our own (small) animated movie which you can watch here.
Here is a set of instructions on how to make your own.
    1) You have to have an I- pad with I can animate on it
    2) Next, you have to use duck tape and use a lot to make it stay still. Also, when you do it, you have to make sure the camera is slightly over the edge so you can take pictures of the characters.
    3) After that you have to go on I can animate on the I-pad and there will be a plus sign and you click on that, and it will bring you to a new page to start
    4) Then, you need to decide on what you want to do, but you will also need scissors, a big piece of paper, A4 pieces of paper and colouring pens.
    5) Next, when you have all those things, you have to start drawing your characters. Make sure that your characters aren’t dark so you can see them
    6) Afterwards, when you finish drawing you put your background (big piece of paper) in so you can put on your characters
    7) Before you put on your characters on, you have to tape your background to the floor.
    8) Then, you put your characters on your characters
    9) When your on I can animate, there is a camera and you click that
    10) You keep moving your characters small by small and keep clicking the camera till your done

We went to CLC on Friday 23rd April.  We learned about all different kinds of animation.  It was fun and we watched a short film. After packed lunch I was in a team with Harry, Elsie and Soren.  We cut shapes out of paper, they were a monkey, a tree and a minecraft  creeper. We  moved them a bit at a time and took a picture each time.  Then we put the photos after each other quickly and the story came to life.

    Animating

    You will need:
    1. Ipad
    2. I can animate (app on the Ipad)
    3. Big sheet of paper
    4. Blue tack or tape (to tape the paper to the ground)
    5. Characters for your story
    6. Table
    7. Some friends to help

    How to Animate

    1. Download the app ‘I can animate’ on the App store and try to work out how to use it (it’s quite simple)
    2. Use your blue tack or tape to stick your big sheet of paper onto the floor below a table
    3. Draw all your characters on a separate sheet of paper and cut them out carefully, making sure they look clear and people will be able to notice what they are when you are animating.
    4. Place your Ipad on the table carefully with the camera facing off the table at the sheet of paper on the floor. Make sure that all your characters and most of  your sheet of paper are in frame because you don’t want any of your characters on the floor when you are animating!
    5. Go on I can animate and get ready to animate with your friends!
    6. This is where you start to animate. Place all your characters in their starting positions and take a picture with the big red button at the side of the screen
    7. Continue to do this, moving your characters a tiny bit every time you take a picture
    8. Once you have finished your animation you can watch it as many times as you want to
    9. Share your movie with the public! You Tube , facebook, Your animation is amazing!

To start with we set down a plain orange background. Already there was an iPad taped down in position so that it was in line with the background. The app we used to make our animations was called  ‘I can animate’.We got put in groups and decided what our animation was going to be about. We were allowed 2 characters and three objects. We only chose one character, a boy. We also chose some objects, a  football, frisbee and a basketball. Soon after we decided we had to draw and cut out our characters and objects. Then it was time for us to start putting the animation together. We had our characters in position so we took one picture. We then had to move the characters and objects a tiny bit to where we wanted to move it. We didn’t move it too much though because then it wouldn’t look good. We did it again and again until we finally finished. We checked it over at the end and if looked great!

    paper
    a pencil

3.When you have finished, that draw a background related to your story and objects in your movie
    and make sure it’s in frame {in line with the camera}

5.Make sure to keep checking over for mistakes which you an note down and come back to when you’re finished.

6.When you are finished watch over your film a few times editing mistakes, this may take a while since you’ll have to re-film some parts.

    7. Then show your film to a small audience to get feedback. Make the suggested changes to your film and re-watch it to make sure you are happy with the finished product.

8.Save your film and make sure to back it up to a saving device like a usb stick.

We made the animation by making hand made paper characters/puppets using the app on the ipads ‘I can animate’. You just to take pictures but at the same time move your characters/puppets so that when you press the play button it looks like a movie ( make sure you do not move your characters/puppets to much). Time by time you need to check it to make sure every is how you would like it to be such as if you have your foot or finger in it you delete that particular picture. This whole animation might take a long time to do so make sure that if you work in a group that you all get a turn otherwise the people that get left out will get very very board.
