This week is Road Safety Week and we have been learning how to be safe pedestrians. Since we live is such a busy area, we have been learning how to stay safe when we are out and about on the streets!

We had a visitor to tell us and show us all about road safety. We went out onto the street and learned lots of different ways to stay safe and cross safely!

What did you learn today? What will you make sure that you always do when you’re out and about?

I learnt a lot of new facts about road safety like:
More than 1.2 million people die in car crashes every year
Wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of death by 61%
I had great fun learning about road safety and I think it will help me by walking home by my-self

To be safe on the road you need to cross when the Green man is showing. Look and listen for any
Cars coming around a corner and don’t cross when a red man Is showing.

I really enjoyed the road safety, because I can learn more about the road and how to cross it. I had lot’s of fun with Vivian and I’d like to do it again. We learnt what type of roads there are around Cathedral school, including Zebra crossing, pelican and toucan.

During road safety week on Wednesday we had a lady to take us out on the streets in groups to teach what were safe crossings and trying to cross them safely. She also taught what to do if a car was parked and you couldn’t see the road.We also did a poster about how to keep sate on roads and around the area of a road.

Road Safety Week was really fun especially when we went with Vivien and looked at different roads and how to cross them safely without getting hurt. We also practiced road safety in different circumstances like when we were near some parked cars, on tiny roads, major roads and at crossings. We also drew and wrote some posters about being safe on roads and afterwards worked in pairs on Comic Life. We learnt a lot of interesting things.

We found out so many things in road safety  like if a lorry in your way  you go a bit near to  the lorry or whats blocking  then look if it is a green light if  it is  you check  then   go.

Step before the  kerb because the car could off go  road and on pavement

I found road safety week very fun. We did lots of things; one of the things we did was talked to a road safety expert and she showed us how to walk across the road safely. We also got to try out the methods ourselves when we crossed the road with her.

During road safety week we learnt in the dark you must wear bright clothes so drivers could see us when we are crossing the road. Another thing we learnt is not to step on the kerb until we had stopped looked and listened.

I learned a lot about road safety!!! When you have nowhere to cross expect from in between cars you can do it, but you need to know this.First you have to look to see if you were behind the kerb. Then you walk to the edge of the car and to look both ways like you normally do.If it is clear cross but still look and listen.Otherwise step back and let the traffic run past you.Only then, cross and still listen. And that’s what I learned today.

Today we went outside of school and learnt how to cross the road safely in all different sorts of ways, we crossed a puffin crossing, a one way road, and a road near parked cars. We had to wear hi vis jackets so the cars could see us! Did you know the silver/white light on the car means reverse, so you have to look if the car is reversing before you check in front of the parked car if there are any other cars coming a different way? I hope the whole school are having a great time this week, because I am very excited for next year’s road safety week as I am enjoying this one so much!

To cross the road you have to look both ways then you can cross when it is safe. You can cross at a puffin crossing or a pelican crossing. You can cross at an island. Never cross behind a car and always listen to hear if a car is coming. Stop Look and Listen.

    Tips for the road:
Make sure you don’t stand on the kerb for no accidents.
If your crossing a road with parked cars, step in between, look L&R then you can go.
Make sure you pay attention to the light so you know when to cross.
If the road is narrow, and a truck is coming, you have to stand back so the mirrors don’t hit you.

The road can be a dangerous place and you can get really hurt so to prevent that follow these tips and you’ll be fine.

Every time you cross the road look left and right then start walking across carrying on to look left and right until you reach the other side.

Before you cross the road don’t stand near the kerb because if something happens and you get hurt you’ll probably end up in the hospital.

Never cross the road when you’re near a bend in the road because you never know when a car is coming round the corner.

Don’t ever cross the road when you can hear a siren because police cars, ambulances and fire engines can go through red lights and can hit you.

    STOP:
Always stop at the edge of the curb before you cross a road.
    LOOK:
Always look left and right for traffic approaching on the road before you cross.
    LISTEN:
Always listen for  cars, motor bikes and bicycles  to see if they are approaching. Also listen for police sirens and ambulances.

I really enjoyed road safety week. We learnt loads of facts when the road safety expert came and took us out. I learnt how to cross around parked cars and the names of crossing. For example a Pelican crossing is were you have the green man on the other side of the road, but a Puffin crossing is were you have a sensor on the traffic lights and the green man is just beside you. I think that a puffin crossing is better as soon as the last person has got off the road the cars can go.

the look both ways before crossing the street.
