Autumn 2, Week 5

Stars of the Week: Lilian and JackĀ

These children have been selected this week for their consistent efforts in our reading group sessions. Both Jack and Lilian listen to others whilst they read, whilst giving a full effort for their own turn. Both have given a great effort in our play rehearsals this week as well, and learnt their lines beautifully.

This week has consisted of lots of acting and singing. We’ve done whole school rehearsals of the song we will sing in Southwalk Cathedral next Friday, and we’ve done class run throughs of our Nativity play on the stage in the hall.

In Mathematics we’ve continued to look at addition, and begun listening to songs that teach us the number bonds to 10. Next week, we’ll think about taking away and subtraction.

In Phonics, we’ve learnt all the Autumn Term sounds already, so we are focusing on blending the digraphs we’ve learnt: th, qu, nk, ng, ch and ck in words like quick, chunk, think, and thing. We’re also practicing reading longer sentences as a class.

In Literacy we’ve read In the City by Dominika Lipniewska and had a go at writing down why we love living in London. Next week we will look closer at the components of a sentence, reminding children to use finger spaces between words, and full stops at the end.

We look forward to seeing those who can attend our Cathedral service next Friday!

Best wishes,

Miss Hardy
