Documentary Making

Year 4 have been very busy this term; not only did they lead our Easter Worship at Southwark Cathedral but they also worked with London Connected Learning Centre and The BFI to produce some fascinating documentaries about Southwark Cathedral. The films were commissioned by the Southwark Cathedral Education Centre and will be shown to visitors to the centre.

Sponsored Walk

097

On Sunday 24th March at least 80 children, parents, staff and governors took part in a sponsored walk organised by the Parent Forum to raise money for the school. There were lots of activities to complete along the way, based on landmarks and places of interest as well as a voucher for free ice-cream for every child who completed the 3 or 5 mile route. Mamuska Polish restaurant provided delicious food for hungry walkers and there was also a cake sale for people with a sweet tooth. The school are very grateful to the Parent Forum for such a successful event. Thanks also to everybody who took part in the sponsored walk.

What was your highlight of the day?

Easter Children

Yesterday Class 4, led our Easter worship at Southwark Cathedral. The performance was confident and full of energy. Well done Class 4! As well as preparing for the Easter Service Class 4 have been working with the BFI and London Connected Learning Centre to produce a documentary about Southwark Cathedral which will be shown to people visiting the Cathedral’s Education Centre. The documentary will be available on the Class 4 blog soon.

Book Day

Today the children and staff at Cathedral School dressed up as their favourite book characters and authors. The effort and creativity that went into the costumes was incredible. Photos will follow shortly.

At Cathedral School we feel that one of the best things about World Book Day is discovering new authors and remembering forgotten favourites A very exciting part of the day was the ‘Choose a story session’. Children were able to choose a story from a selection before finding out which teacher would read it to them.

Which story did you choose and why?

Every child will receive a £1 book token today. This is valid from the 2nd to the 29th March and entitles your child to a free £1 World Book Day Book or £1 off a book or audio book worth £2.99 or more from any participating bookshop. Please visit the World Book Day website for more information.

Menier Theatre Project

Congratulations to Year 5 who took part in a drama project with the Menier Theatre on Union Street. As part of the project they worked with staff from the theatre including a musical director and movement coach to write and perform their own creation called “We’re What’s Happening”. The show was inspired by Sondheim’s The Assassins which is currently on at The Menier. Class 5’s performance was based around people who are positive influences in their lives and included songs from the show. The performance was stunning and the director from The Menier said afterwards, “I have to say, after years of working in primary schools, that is was a pleasure to come into Cathedral Primary every week. It does feel like a special place to be, and your pupils are a testament to that.” If you would like to see photos and video clips from the show please visit the Class 5 blog.
