500 Words Short Story Competition

500 words
Well done to all of those who entered the BBC’s 500 words short story competition. Overall the judges received over 120,000 entries and we would like to congratulate Eleanor and Faber in Year 6, Jack in Year 4 and Sylvie in Year 3 whose stories have been picked – with just 3,800 others – to go to the Reading Agency for the second round of judging. Have a look at the comments below to see the stories they entered.  We will find out how they get on in May.

Well done to everyone who entered as we are told the competition was fierce. The overwhelming response was that the standard was extremely high this year. The judges had a GREAT time marking the stories, so our writers should feel very proud.

Somewhere Special Project

The Somewhere Special Project Exhibition was a great opportunity for the children to showcase the work they had completed on their special place. It was fantastic to see the huge variety of locations chosen and that so many pupils had chosen to research parts of the world that they had visited personally or locations where their family live.

Project 1

We were overwhelmed by the ingenious ways the children chose to present their projects including videos, posters, models, cakes, verbal presentations and project books.

Thank you to all family members who helped the children complete their projects, the time and effort that had been given to producing the final outcome was clear to see.

Leave a comment and tell us about your Somewhere Special Project.

Documentary Making

Year 4 have been very busy this term; not only did they lead our Easter Worship at Southwark Cathedral but they also worked with London Connected Learning Centre and The BFI to produce some fascinating documentaries about Southwark Cathedral. The films were commissioned by the Southwark Cathedral Education Centre and will be shown to visitors to the centre.

Sponsored Walk

097

On Sunday 24th March at least 80 children, parents, staff and governors took part in a sponsored walk organised by the Parent Forum to raise money for the school. There were lots of activities to complete along the way, based on landmarks and places of interest as well as a voucher for free ice-cream for every child who completed the 3 or 5 mile route. Mamuska Polish restaurant provided delicious food for hungry walkers and there was also a cake sale for people with a sweet tooth. The school are very grateful to the Parent Forum for such a successful event. Thanks also to everybody who took part in the sponsored walk.

What was your highlight of the day?

Private view at the Goodlife Center

Thank you to everyone at the Goodlife Center for working with us on our Stool Project this term. Year 6 have had had such a fantastic time and they have learned so much.

They had to measure and mark their work, drill holes for dowels to join two lengths of pine board for the stool tops and cut the boards into circles on the bandsaw.

They used tenon saws to cut the thick dowels for the legs and shaped a shoulder with rasps so that when they drilled large holes in the stool top, the legs pushed through and held.

We really enjoyed sharing what we learned with our parents today.

What are your memories of the Goodlife Center?

Easter Children

Yesterday Class 4, led our Easter worship at Southwark Cathedral. The performance was confident and full of energy. Well done Class 4! As well as preparing for the Easter Service Class 4 have been working with the BFI and London Connected Learning Centre to produce a documentary about Southwark Cathedral which will be shown to people visiting the Cathedral’s Education Centre. The documentary will be available on the Class 4 blog soon.
